UPDATE 7/6/21: Thanks to the generosity of donors, Paulie's medical expenses have been covered in full and he was adopted! This sweet cat received a long course of injectable antibiotics to help him recover from an uncommon bacteria infection. He stayed in a foster home for the duration of his recovery. 

His new family shared, "He’s been the perfect fit for our family and we love him so much. He likes to lay in the warm sunshine by a window. He loves to have his head and face rubbed. If you stop too soon he’ll give you a paw to let you know he needs more love. He still has a persistent runny nose, but that’s ok, we just occasionally wipe it for him. Just one of his unique qualities."

Below is Paulie's "Before" story, we are thankful that this kitty made a full recovery and has the forever home he deserves!

Paulie came to Lake Humane Society from an unsanitary hoarding situation.

When this gentle kitty arrived at LHS, he was lethargic, dehydrated, and very sick. He could barely move from his blanket and his nose constantly drained pus. To make matters worse, many of his teeth were also infected, making it difficult for him to eat. Paulie was immediately started on a round of antibiotics to fight the infection, but he did not recover as our veterinarian had hoped. 

Instead, Paulie's infection continued. Dental surgery, additional antibiotics, and nasal flushing were all performed in the months that followed. Paulie went to stay in a foster home for some extra TLC to help his recovery. But, he remained ill.

Medical staff began to worry that his immune system was too weak to fight the infection. X-rays revealed the infection spread to his lungs. As a last attempt to find a cure, medical staff tested a sample of the pus. It was discovered that Paulie has an uncommon bacteria that is resistant to typical treatment. Without proper treatment, this diagnosis is likely fatal.

To give Paulie a second chance at life, he needs a long course of injectable antibiotics under strict medical supervision. It will take at least 8 weeks of this special treatment to see a marked improvement.

Despite his months of sickness, Paulie remains a loving and sweet gentleman. He is only 5 years old and still has so much life left to live. After spending many years without proper care, Paulie deserves a loving family.

TANK
Tank came to LHS as part of an animal cruelty investigation. Upon examination, it was found that he was most likely part of a dog fighting ring. Tank suffered from severe trauma to his left eye, a swollen and infected front leg and bite marks all over his body

LUCY
A good samaritan brought Lucy to LHS back in December of 2019 after she was hit by a car. She suffered multiple abrasions and trauma all over her body and it was determined that her front leg was paralyzed. Due to her paralysis, she underwent surgery to amputate her leg.

PENNY
In 2020, Penny was found chained up at a Lake County residence in the heat and sun without water, shade or food. She suffered from heat stroke. Lab work revealed kidney and liver problems, which medical staff believed was the result of deadly heat exposure.
