UPDATE 4/18/2022: Ice has been adopted! Now recovered, Ice has been renamed to Leo and is enjoying life with his canine and human siblings. His mom says, "He is already a joy to have with us and has been adjusting well. It took him one day to be comfortable with my husband, and was sad searching for him around the house this morning when my husband left for work. Thank you so much for your help, and allowing Ice/Leo to come home to my family!"
UPDATE 2/11/2022: Ice received his amputation surgery earlier this week and is recovering well in a foster home! We will be sure to update our donors and supporters in the weeks to come on his recovery.
Meet Ice. This stunning, one year old German Shepherd has sadly been forced to overcome so much in his young life.
Several months ago, Ice was found as a stray and brought to a rescue in southern Ohio. It was discovered that Ice had a fractured leg that failed to heal correctly. Ice was transferred from this partner rescue to LHS to help him find his forever home. When he arrived, Ice had difficulty walking and his affected leg seemed painful to be touched. LHS's medical team consulted with an orthopedic surgeon and reviewed x-rays. It was determined that an amputation was necessary to offer him a better quality of life.
Ice’s foster family describes him as sweet and eager to please. Ice truly is beautiful inside and out. Not only does he have a striking white coat, he loves other dogs, is well-behaved around cats, and is overall, just a good boy. After everything this sweet dog has been through, he deserves a happy ending. If he doesn’t undergo surgery, Ice will likely develop arthritis at an early age and will sadly, need to be on pain medication and joint supplements for the rest of his life.
His critical treatment will cost upwards of $2,500 and this surgery will be a pivotal moment in Ice’s journey to a better life. Any amount you can give will help this beautiful, gentle pup live the pain-free life he deserves.
Thanks to generous supporters - Ice's treatment has been covered in full!
Ice's treatment will cost upwards of $2,500
This estimate includes amputation surgery, medications and additional examinations/lab work to monitor his recovery. In addition to his extensive medical treatment, Ice will receive loving care in a foster home throughout his recovery.
