Buddha Needs Your Help!
Buddha was surrendered by his owner on July 20, 2018. His former owners could not afford medical treatment and Buddha was in very poor condition. Upon arrival at LHS, he could not stand. He was severely emaciated. He had liquid diarrhea and vomit, which caused him to become severely dehydrated. The owners had taken Buddha into another veterinarian in June because he had eaten something that was stuck in his abdomen. They were told it would pass so the owners declined surgery and took him home.
Upon arrival, Megan, our Animal Clinic Manager, gave him fluids. She knew it was an emergency and if she couldn't get him to a veterinarian for radiographs and possible surgery, he may not survive the night. Dr. Kelly Knapp at Animal Medical Center of Euclid was able to fit him in for radiographs. He was driven there on a stretcher because he could not stand. The radiographs showed the profile of a teddy bear. Dr. Knapp knew that if she did not operate he may die. Dr. Knapp stayed after business hours on Friday night and operated. She found over 8 foreign items, including a pacifier in the shape of a teddy bear. His intestines were already necrotic, so Dr. Knapp had to remove about 40 inches. Even though the surgery was successful, Buddha was not out of the woods. Dr. Knapp knew his recovery was extremely important to have monitored. Being that it was 8:00 pm, we had to get him to an emergency clinic for overnight monitoring. Buddha was driven to an emergency veterinary office and they monitored his vitals overnight.
The next morning he was doing well and was transferred back to our facility. Our medical team and animal care staff continue to care for and monitor Buddha, and we are hopeful that he will be available for adoption soon. He is a sweetheart -- a complete gentle giant -- and it's clear he is so appreciative of the second chance at life he's been given.
To date, Buddha's care has cost our organization over $2,000 and counting. All donations made to this fundraising page will be immediately put to use through our Angel Fund to help Buddha and other pets in desperate need of medical care. Your donations will literally save lives!
